Here’s a sculpt from a while back. In D&D it’s called a Grell. Delightfully creepy, fun to make, I’ll finish it someday.

10 Halloweens ago I sculpted up the Bomb from Final Fantasy X. 4 Halloweens ago a friend of mine did a test print of it. This year I finally got around to painting it.

Seeing your digital work become physical is incredibly satisfying!

Learning the basics of painting models is good fun too.
On the bottom left is a reference image of a floating fire creature from Final Fantasy X called "Bomb". The creature casts fire spells, grows in size, and eventually explodes. Its reminiscent of an evil jack-o-lantern, with furrowed brow and menacing sharp toothed grin. It has two stubby little arms, its eyes are black with glowing yellow pupils. It is mostly red and yellow, with black rocky spikes protruding from the top and back of its head. Next to it is a digital sculpture of the same thing, it is white with no colour applied. The same reference image in the bottom left. The digital sculpture is shown again, this time with some colour applied to better match the reference. The bomb sculpture has been 3D printed in grey filament. Much of the detail is preserved, but print lines are more visible around the mouth and eyes. It is held aloft using a "flying base", a plastic transparent disk with thin column that protrudes from the center. The model rests on the column, giving the illusion of levitation. The 3D printed model, now painted. It uses the same colour scheme of yellow red and black as the reference, with some light grey highlights on the sharp edges of the rocky protrusions. The final product is an interpretation of the reference rather than a identical replica. The model is facing the camera, resting on an assortment of small paint bottles. The flying base went back to its owner.

I just really like the lighting in this hallway.
A gloomy hallway with pale green corrugated metal walls either side. The floor is a dark grey but softly reflects the lighting like wet tarmac. 4 windows meekly proffer cold azure light from outside. Tubular crossbeams zig zag along the ceiling, divided by stabilising girders. There are 4 lights, dome shaped, fixed to the ceiling. They emit a clinical yellowish glow, save for one that adds a streak of pink to the centre of the walkway.

My first attempt at a character for print in Nomad Sculpt (cleanup & prep in ZBrush).

Based on a friends excellent D&D character illustration. The final print lives at their house.

She was great fun to sculpt, and very satisfying to work on an iPad.
