But Democrats always favour "reconcillation" and "unity", "healing", with people who offer zero of that back, and all other sorts of mind-boggling weakness, so I rather doubt anything is going to happen.

USA is more or less already dead to me. The only way they could really come back if they elect D supermajorites, and they prosecute pretty much all people involved in Trump admin for a wide variety of crimes, including extreme corruption, war crimes like this, and treason.

He's laying the groundwork for things like "subtle" Holocaust denial which then grows bolder over time and concludes with him claiming some insane conspiracy theory like that the Jews were behind the Nazi regime, or that the Nazis were justified in their actions.

Well, they are still all supporting Trump and spent decades building the corrupt, sick, evil system and disinformation that resulted in Trump. But when faced with barefaced treason like what Trump is pushing, some extremely rare tiny bits of actual principles can sometimes be seen among Republicans.

Unlike Vance, Rubio actually does try to do the right thing for Ukraine. He is too spineless and powerless to really stop Trump and Vance, but he tries his best. One of the few things where he might actually deserve some credit. Not all Republicans have fully sold their soul to Russian treason.

Of course, pressuring Ukraine won't work: Even if Trump managed to get Ukraine to agree to some insanely pro-Russia deal, Russia would instantly take it as a sign that they are able to ask for more, and reject the deal. Indeed, Russia already thinks these "peace talks" mean that it can ask for more.

Trump doesn't have a coherent worldview or strategy. He only has a vague idea that he wants to be a "peacemaker" because he thinks that will boost his ego (and win a Nobel). He admires dictators like Putin and doesn't want to pressure him, so his only choice is to pressure Ukraine.

Trump has dementia. What is groundhog day to us is the reverse for him: Every day is new and special, and every day he comes up with a new brilliant idea, nevermind that he already came up with it the day before. Brilliant ideas like "Let's tariff everyone", "Let's give Putin more concessions".

Someone should tell Trump a simple but true thing that might actually get through to him: Trying to force Ukraine surrender doesn't make USA look strong. It makes USA, and especially Trump and his admin, look EXTREMELY weak. Someone ask him to his face if he wants to be a weak loser who gave up.

I recently encountered that quote while reading about various monuments to unknown soldiers. That same quote is written on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens. (My admittedly incomplete understanding of what it means: Great men's "tomb monument" is their legacy and effect on the whole world.)

Otherwise people will be advocating for policy that only makes sense in a world where for example ICBMs work completely differently from how they actually work. Or nuclear escalation in general.
And that might even cause them to unwittingly advocate actions that make nuclear war more likely.

Nuclear war is a very real issue and it genuinely affects people's political views. Nuclear war in a text that is not explicitly fiction deserves to be torn to pieces by pedantry.

The thing is, it is very unsophisticated. That is the sad and astoninshing thing. It turns out that people are extremely easy to manipulate if you control enough of the media. Have you seen Fox News? It is frankly very poor quality. But its watchers do not care, they are addicted to the propaganda.

You're no doubt aware of Peter Thiel who is basically the puppetmaster behind Vance. He is one of the people who will take (even more) control behind the scenes once Trump's lifetime of burgers finally catches up to him.
