My lolo sa tuhod, Jose Abad-Santos, was the 5th Chief Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court. He served as acting president and commander-in-chief during WWII from March 1942 until execution. Japanese forces killed him for refusing to cooperate during occupation. He was a real hero.

On this day in 1986, Ferdinand Marcos deposed by a nonviolent revolution. Marcos gained political success by exaggerating his actions in World War II, claiming to have been the "most decorated war hero in the Philippines". United States Army documents described his claims as "fraudulent".
