For multiplayer on Wii U;
One player could be on the TV and the other would have the Gamepad, so everyone had their own Fullscreen view.
They originally planned for multiple Wii U gamepads to be connected, which would then allow Individual screens for more than 2 players, but it fell through.

Oh I thought the post specified "Mariokart", Other mario/Nintendo games do work obviously, basically up to Wii works smoothly and 3DS is kinda the current limit.

Yes, anything up to Mariokart Wii can be emulated damn near perfectly in Xbox dev mode, with 7 running poorly.
