Nonprofit childcare centers will all but kiss your feet if you donate food, clothes, toys/books. (New/gently used clothes/toys.) On behalf of teachers and parents? Nothing with batteries. Please.

Local places of worship, schools, hospitals, and childcare centers will always take basics. They'll donate them to those in need. All you need to do is ask for a list of what to buy and when to drop off a bag or 2.
