Tbf Petti is lowkey kind of annoying, but considering how deep into the shit everything is, eh.

Pretty much that tbh, which is part of the why the White House at the time kind of got befuddled with Maduro.

“We’re basically offering you cash and in the meantime you’re hyping up an invasion of Guyana?”
January 30, 2026 at 1:50 PM
Tbf it was mostly to the tune of “just give us something to rubber stamp so we can get this over with and not get yelled at in Florida because of it”.
January 30, 2026 at 1:45 PM
Sure, let’s go with that. Let’s circle back to the beginning: Biden did try to normalize relations with Venezuela, that went to shit tbh, and he did raise the bounty mostly as a fuck you as he was getting out of office.
January 30, 2026 at 12:56 PM
Tbf a lot of right wing dipshits in LATAM do that kind of stuff and that’s before the CIA even thinks they’re worth the effort.
January 30, 2026 at 12:49 PM
By 24’ he was yelling about how Lula had stolen the elections in Brasil while threatening the Brazilian mission in Caracas (that’s even before the Machado thing) and the same applies to Colombia.
January 30, 2026 at 12:47 PM
Along the 20’s Brazilian and Colombian diplomacy tried several different approaches to normalize with Maduro. They invited him to meetings, offered economic assistance and concessions, but the thing is that the guy is kind of an asshole on principle.
January 30, 2026 at 12:45 PM
Machado and Gonzalez in 24’ weren’t getting a lot of backing from the CIA. State absolutely did some cover for them though and that’s kind of how they ended up in the Brazilian embassy so they wouldn’t go to jail anyway.
January 30, 2026 at 12:42 PM
So, you’re being kind of dense. The thing is that no one in LATAM actually liked Maduro, bar the Cubans, and everyone agreed something should be done about it. The thing is agreeing on that something and not doing it in a way that potentially creates more headaches later down the line.
January 30, 2026 at 12:41 PM
The idea was mostly as a face saving device for Washington so it could resume relations and not get yelled at by dumbasses in Florida or whatever.
January 30, 2026 at 12:38 PM
Not really tbh. A part of the deal was basically that Maduro wouldn’t hunt the opposition in the streets (which he did lol) and not blatantly fuck with the results (which he absolutely did).
January 30, 2026 at 12:37 PM
That’s kind of the why no one’s really crying over Maduro being gone. The thing that made people mad and paranoid is more the “US SOCOM can just nab your president in the middle of the night”.
January 30, 2026 at 12:22 PM
A major part of normalizing relations was Venezuela having semi open elections in 24’. To put it mildly, they did none of that shit lol. It’s also doubly annoying because countries like Brasil, Chile and Colombia were backing the idea and when they complained about that, Maduro told them to fuck off
January 30, 2026 at 12:20 PM
Tbf that was mostly as a consequence of Maduro being a dumbass and both hyping up his planned invasion of Guyana* and going back on the deal about the elections of 24’.

* = He didn’t really plan this out, but he did start a border crisis for the shits and giggles
January 30, 2026 at 12:16 PM
Sure, but you asked about Venezuela.
January 30, 2026 at 12:13 PM
It’s worse because the only interactions with Asian partners have been some version of harassing South Korea, annoying Japan, being a bitch to Vietnam and befuddling India.
January 29, 2026 at 3:59 AM
I mean, Trump did escalate the rethoric both in his first and then his current term. Obama did some sanctions and Biden tried to normalize relations.
January 29, 2026 at 3:53 AM
Oh, I get that, it’s more that, for example, the Danish and French SF training out of Kangerlussuaq might have opinions on a U.S. ABN battalion airlanding at Nuuk.
January 21, 2026 at 10:14 PM
Also, you know, Greenland is bigger than Nuuk and there are danish troops all over the island now.
January 21, 2026 at 9:43 PM
But then this is doubly stupid because the NSC explicitly said it’s not worried about competition with Russia or China, so who gives a shit anyway? That’s not even talking about the fact that China is in the pacific and Russia doesn’t have a lot of amphibs.
January 17, 2026 at 6:20 PM
Beyond “map bigger good”, wtf is going on? The U.S. can park shit there and ask for more bases without a problem and don’t you want your theoretical allies to help patrol Greenland?
January 17, 2026 at 6:20 PM
I legit need someone to explain to me wtf is the admin thinking about Greenland, because none of this makes sense to me.
January 17, 2026 at 6:19 PM
*Laughs in Bolsonaro slowly rotting away in jail*
January 13, 2026 at 3:49 PM
Which is sort of why the theory of “maybe some guys knew of the raid and went on a smoke break during it” is gaining some traction with me.
January 9, 2026 at 11:56 PM
Well, yes and no. That’s absolutely true and a conservative estimate would put at least a third of them not operational, however, I specifically mentioned the JH-12 radar because it was operational, since it’s a center piece of Caracas AD, however it just went missing in the weeks prior to the raid.
