The report argues that England’s council farm estate is an ideal starting point for a wider transformation of Britain’s food system away from ecologically destructive ‘conventional farming’ methods, towards socially & ecologically regenerative systems rooted in the principles of food sovereignty 4/4

The report proposes that local authorities, farmworkers and community groups should work together to implement public-common partnerships to ease a transition away from today’s socially and ecologically unsustainable food system. 3/4

Our report, Food Systems in Common, outlines how we can democratise Britain’s food system and produce good quality, nutritious and affordable food while repairing the country’s damaged ecosystems, and meeting climate targets. 2/4

Here @adamvaughan.bsky.social shows why we need social control of water.

Out yesterday, our report makes the case for treating water as a shared resource, not a corporate asset.

It asks "should we prioritise using water to grow food or to cool data centres?"

adamvaughan.bsky.social
How much water do Britain's data centres use?

Bafflingly, there is no official figure. So here's my best estimate after weeks of reporting: circa 10 billion litres of water a year. And that's before any big UK AI boom.

Thirsty data centres are sucking up Britain’s scarce water supplies
The tech industry faces scrutiny as secrecy clouds the true cost of cooling servers and the country braces for shortages and hosepipe bans

1/3 One of the best and most refined arguments out there for water in public hands. Worth the read.

Water should work for us but is really run to make rich people richer. Yet "nationalisation" isn't always the answer.

3/3 That's why, more than nationalisation, we need democratic ownership and control of our water.

Abundance’s new paper says it’s not just about who owns things. It’s about who controls them - and how to make sure that’s us, the public.

England's broken water system needs a change of ownership.

Keir Milburn & Bertie Russell argue for @abundance-org.bsky.social that we need more than that: a new model built around social control of water, prioritising & empowering workers & communities.
