The Sabatier Reaction runs best at 400°C and you want a ratio of 3.5 to 4 oxygen per methane. Also, you have to store the liquid methane at a chilly 95° Kelvin

I knew about the Sabatier Reaction, but hadn't heard about Rodriguez wells (Rodwells). 1kw of power = 150kg of water which seems like a good deal. It'll then need very good filtering given the toxic Martian soil and dust mixed into it.

Currently reading Robert Zubrin's book The New World on Mars and his ideas are like better researched more fleshed out ones of mine. I keep wondering how we are going to build a base on Mars, what it'll be like running a forge to create steel, if it can also be used to make glass and ceramics
