And I had an almond mom, too, which made it so much worse. "Do you have your makeup on?" "You're having the salad" "You look chunky in that outfit, go change" "How many calories are in that?" "You need to do more cardio, an hour just isn't enough"...

That tracks. They see children both as property and an extension of themselves. When a child doesn't conform to conservative ideals, it makes the parent "look bad," which is the most egregious sin a child can commit. I'm in my 40s and my parents *still* spit venom and hiss "you're embarrassing me".

I feel like the conservative view on parenting is even worse than this. They see children as property, which makes them an extension of the parent, not individuals with their own thoughts, feelings, identities, and beliefs.

That's not a thing you can accurately screen for and even if you could, yeah that's eugenics.

Of course, if a fetus is is determined to be literally "not compatible with life" the tragic reality is that there's nothing that can be done. Deciding who is or is not "worthy" of life is a very, very different question.

Of course, nobody should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term against their will. But the point still remains that being able-bodied is a temporary state for *all* humans. If you want to become a parent, you have to be prepared that your child could become disabled or chronically ill at any time.

It you're not ready to be a parent of a child with a disability, you're not ready to be a parent, period.
If a child that is born to a "parent that isn't ready for a disabled child" develops a serious disability after they're born, does the paren't get to say "oh, no, I didn't sign up for this"?

Absolutely. It is one thing for a disabled person decide that they don't want to have children *for any reason whatsoever*. It is quite another to decide who is and isn't "worthy of life".

Ok, but that's a really slippery slope as well. It very quickly becomes "disabled people shouldn't have children" which, again, is ✨ fucking eugenics ✨
