I guess it's like going to the gym. If you start going and persist, you may get to not hate it or even slightly like it. And a minority get hooked on it.

I'm always amazed that people's brains think "I'll build a server that will need to process a huge amount of data in near real-time and will need to be maintained" and then they immediately think "I'll do it in a scripting language!"
