Job! Judaic Studies & the Medieval/Renaissance Center at Binghamton are looking for a Talmud/Medieval Rabbinics specialist! I have long been part of the Med/Ren group myself and I can vouch it is very active, supportive, and functional. Good people!

ⲧⲥⲉⲃⲟ is a causative (cf. ⲥⲁⲃⲉ "knowing, wise", ⲥⲃⲱ "teaching"), with ϯ-ⲥⲃⲱ as a synonym. Don't confuse with ⲥⲱⲃⲉ "laugh, play around, laugh at"!

That's right! Both he and Duane have long solos, and it's an extended jam throughout.

The Jacob Intercisus (aka "Jacob the Persian") martyrdom is such a great text, and known in several languages. I've read it with students in Syriac, Arabic, Gəʕəz, Armenian, and Coptic (S & B), and I published an article on it a few years ago.

In sincerity I did log on for a reason. A new issue of the Journal of Medieval and Early Modern Studies is out, edited by colleague/friend Marcel Elias. It's about how to do postcolonial medieval studies bigger and better. You'll like it. (I'm in there). Go read.

The absolute velvety blackness was essential. In the end, I repainted the whole thing in acrylics, over the pastel rendering.

The art was later used for the cover for Beneath the Remains by the band Sepultura. 4/4

Fresh off the press! A paper in a wonderful volume edited by Peter Adamson @histphilosophy.bsky.social and Miira Tuominen ("Animals in Greek, Arabic, and Latin Philosophy"). This has been the most fun I had in writing a paper, as it combines my favourite topics: Aristotle, animals, and artefacts.

Old Georgian word of the day
სარეკელი
bell, ≈gong, semantron

as in Jn Moschos, Leimonarion, ed. Abuladze, 6.5
ვითარცა დაჰრეკა დეკანოზმან სარეკელსა
"when the deacon sounded the semantron"

Both the noun and the verb derive from the root რეკ- "knock, hit" (cf. Fähnrich, Etym., 343).
