Aräbiän Oryx (Oryx leucoryx) Herbivore • Population: Size 1000 • Status: Vulnerable • Habitat: Arabian oryx inhabit the deserts and arid plains of Arabia, where temperatures can reach 50°C even in the shade during summer. Found In Israel, Saudi Arabia, Oman and soon in many more parts of the Arabian peninsula. Facts This species is the most well adapted of the oryx for life in desert extremes. Their white color reflects the desert heat and sunlight. On cold winter mornings, body heat is trapped in their thick undercoats in order to keep warm. The Arabian oryx may be responsible for the legend of the unicorn. Looking at them side-on, their two horns appear to be one. Since the Arabian oryx's skin has no glare or reflection, it is very hard to see them even from 100 meters away. They almost seem invisible. Follow @animalia.bsky.app

Found In North America, Northern and South-eastern Europe, and in plateaus in Colombia Facts The specific name of the Horned lark 'alpestris' comes from Latin and means 'of the high mountains', from Alpes, the Alps. The "horns" of the Horned lark are in fact little tufts of feathers. Horned larks are hard to see because they blend with their environment and become inconspicuous.
