Yesterday, the Indiana Senate defeated HB 1032 — the proposal to redraw congressional districts mid-decade following a months-long pressure campaign from Washington.

Lawmakers listened. Hoosiers spoke up. We’re grateful to everyone who helped defend it. Thank you for staying engaged.

On Monday night, we honored Harriet Miller and Monica Wehrle with our Jane Henegar Carrying the Torch Award. As plaintiffs in our 2014 case that helped win marriage equality in Indiana, and longtime advocates for women and LGBTQ+ rights, they have transformed what justice looks like for Hoosiers.

As we near the final Senate vote for HB 1032, it's critical that Indiana residents understand the impact that unprecedented, mid-cycle political gerrymandering would have on their communities.

The redistricting bill is headed to the Senate. This bill, if passed, will have lasting impacts on whose voices are heard and what groups are ignored in D.C. Learn more about the fight against early redistricting at aclu-in.org.

160 years after the 13th Amendment was ratified, slavery is still written into our laws as punishment for a crime. The U.S. and Indiana’s Constitutions both keep that exception alive. It is past time to close it.

House Bill 1032, which would redraw the Indiana congressional maps ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, passed through the Elections and Apportionment Committee this morning.

Today, hundreds of Hoosiers sent a message directly to lawmakers: we, the voters, reject policies that undermine fair representation within our state.

The time is now to tell Indiana lawmakers: NO to mid-decade power grabs and YES to fair maps and transparency.

The House announced just days before a major holiday that they will vote next week on a bill that hasn't been filed — to redraw maps that haven't been released. This is bad governance in the extreme. Hoosiers deserve fair maps. And they deserve transparency.

Yesterday, our Advocacy Manager spoke at the Indiana Black Legislative Caucus Rally opposing mid-decade redistricting. This attempt to rewrite our maps opposes the very foundation of our democracy: we, the voters, choose our elected officials, not the other way around.
