Rep. Wetmore: "We have consistently criminalized the practice of medicine." Currently 14 out of 46 counties have no practicing OB/GYN doctor at all; Wetmore points out that bills like this will worsen the healthcare provider shortage. www.postandcourier.com/graphic-sout...

H. 4760 would list mifepristone & misoprostol as Schedule IV controlled substances, putting them in the same category as Xanax, Valium, & Ambien despite no evidence of potential for abuse or dependency.

Rep. Spencer Wetmore introduces an amendment that would delete the Schedule IV part of the bill.

Rep. Bamberg raises an important point about H. 4760: With each new anti-abortion bill, SC increases its powers as a surveillance state. It's hard to square a commitment to "limited government" with a current amendment that would use asset forfeiture against people who provide funds for abortions.

SC House Bill 4760 seeks to criminalize the use and distribution of mifepristone and misoprostol for abortions. This is a reckless attack on our reproductive rights that will make it harder for all South Carolinians to get healthcare. www.aclusc.org/legislation/...
