@chenoweth.bsky.social what does it mean to “get in formation” like you said in this video? Is it the 4 things you say movements can do: large&diverse/build momentum, inducing loyalty shifts, organizational/messaging discipline, alternative vision/tactical innovation? Or more?

Up until now, I have never seen a branch of a government listed as a pillar of support! I’ve seen Security personnel/forces, Civilian bureaucrats and servants, Party officials and staff, local authoritarians. This is good clarity for my efforts.
acornbaden.bsky.social
Finally clarification! In this video Erica Chenoweth when talking about inducing loyalty shifts within the pillars of support that are upholding & helping the consolidation of autocratic power take place, they do name other parts of the government (state & local pillars) ~20:24 youtu.be/EmuH4RaLFrY

I also never considered myself as in a “pillar” since Chenoweth recommends loyalty shifts among pillars of support. I have no loyalty to this regime (or any regime). So I thought I wasnt in a pillar but Indivisible’s Courage Collective is premised on the idea we are all in pillars #CourageCollective
acornbaden.bsky.social
I’m a bit confused. I’ve been interested in pillars of support & pillar strategies ever since I heard/read Erica Chenoweth talk/write about them. I’ve kept a list of different kinds of pillars. In Indivisible’s new Courage Collective they list “healthcare” as a pillar. Never saw that before! 🧵

For those of you calling 10/18 No Kings 2.0 or some variation, I would like to kindly remind you that the 50501 movement had the first No Kings day on February 17th, President’s Day. 10/18 is technically No Kings 3.0! #NoKings #50501

The Crowd Counting Consortium says the record for most protest locations in one day: 4,470 in 2018. 10/18, No Kings Day already has 2,100+ sites. Small or large, every protest counts. More events build momentum, a key predictor of leaders resigning early. Register & report at nokings.com #NoKings

The mean is 650. That means 450 real protesters who were there vanished from CCC’s final count because the journalists used a vague description.

Is anyone able to help me with this project? #50501 #NoKings #WeCount #HelpWanted #Journalists @crowdcounting.bsky.social @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social

No further number of participants was given in that article. Organizers, however, physically counted 1,100 protesters on that ferry. Under CCC’s method (which finds the mean between the lowest and highest estimates) the journalist’s 200 (“hundreds”) is compared with the organizer’s 1,100. 🧵

In a June 14, 2025 Seattle Times article, reporter Daniel Beekman wrote, “Hundreds of people boarded the 10:25 a.m. ferry from Bainbridge Island to Seattle on Saturday morning to demonstrate against President Donald Trump as part of the wave of ‘No Kings’ protests across the United States.” 🧵

I'm hoping we can finish this list before 10/18 and message the journalists and their editors or news directors before the next No Kings Day protests in hopes they will be less likely to use vague terms in their future reporting.
See next comment for an example of hundreds of protesters being lost

I'm creating a sheet with information about reporters who have described protest counts in vague terms which caused us to lose some protesters in the documentation process. I'm hoping we can finish this list before 10/18 and message the journalists & their editors or news directors before the next 🧵

Hello all, I started a campaign to identify journalists who use vague terms to describe protest participant counts like "hundreds" because we are losing protesters in the Crowd Counting Consortium (CCC) record over these terms being used.🧵 #50501 #NoKings #HelpWanted #Journalists #Protests #WeCount

When women are participating on the frontlines of revolutions in equal parts to men, the movements are 11 times as larger than when women only have supportive roles in movements. According to @chenoweth.bsky.social & Zoe Marks #50501 #NoKings

location can participate in the day of action and still be counted in the total if they make an anonymous public source about it and anonymously submit it to the Crowd Counting Consortium (CCC). Make anonymous public source here submit.wecountproject.com/form #NoKings #50501

I think the No Kings coalition released an end of day count with national totals (over 5 million) before all protests in each time zone was done 6/14. Banging pots and pans in home so they can be heard in the public space near the home is one way people who can not physically be at a protest
