Refugees are particularly vulnerable to the Hane's landlord's discriminatory behaviour. We are all united in our struggle against greedy landlords 🌍✊

We were proud to be joined by @haringeywelcome.bsky.social, a local migrant advocacy group. When an asylum seeker is granted refugee status, they are swiftly evicted from their temporary hotel, and most will not have the right to work yet and so rely on benefits.

We went down, hoping to talk with someone from Hane. They took one look at us, closed up shop, and ran off.
It can feel like landlords have all the power in our broken housing market, but when we organise together, we show them who's boss.

HANE ESTATE AGENTS RUN OFF SCARED 🚩🐔
Our member requested a viewing for a property through Hane Estate Agents. She was told the landlord doesn't accept universal credit claimants. This is discrimination, and we won't stand for it.

They claim they are doing this to reduce spending - saving £5billion - and to ‘help’ people back into work. But at the same time, £14billion of public money goes straight to the pockets of private landlords via housing benefit every year, due to sky high rents and a lack of social homes.

The government recently announced plans to make some of the biggest cuts to disability benefits on record.

These benefits keep people alive. It's predicted that these changes could see up to 1.2 million people losing support of between £4.2k and £6.3k/year over the coming years.

Say no to the government's welfare cuts!

Huge success this weekend as we marched on Haringey's letting agents and demanded fairer renting. We had a brave estate agent promising they won't break the law, but we still want better! Expect more visits, more action, and more wins in the borough soon! 🚩💥📣
