I have never heard a song that belongs to a book more than Freefall by RKS and The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. It is truly maddening. #booksky

Day 12 of BHM. Today’s subject is W.E.B. Du Bois. He was a sociologist, socialist, historian, and a civil rights activist. He was also the very first black man to earn a doctorate. He was also a founder of the NAACP. Du Bois’s work aided in laying the groundwork for equality. #BlackHistoryMonth

The U.S. Army and U.S. Navy have removed all web pages highlighting women’s military service.

Weak men always fear and are threatened by strong women. I’ll never regret voting for VP Kamala Harris.

Day 11 of Black History Month. Today we honor Shirley Chisholm. She was the first black woman to serve on congress. Also, she was the first black woman to be nominated for U.S. president. However, she was blocked from any televised debate due to continued discrimination in the U.S #BlackHistoryMonth

Day 10 of black history month. Today we honor George Washington Carver who became known as the Peanut Man who discovered a myriad of uses for the peanut. He was born into slavery, and when slavery was abolished, he fought to earn his education and eventually became a prominent black scientist. #bhm

Day 9 of Black History Month: today we discuss James Baldwin. Baldwin was a phenomenal writer and civil rights activist. He intertwined themes of masculinity, sexuality, race, and class in narratives the influenced both the Civil Rights Movement and the Gay Liberation Movement. #blackhistorymonth

Day 8 of Black History Month. This is the lovely Lorraine Hansberry. Lorraine was an American playwright and writer. She was also the first black female author to have her play “A Raisin in the Sun” performed on Broadway. One of my favorite plays. #blackhistorymonth

Today’s second subject is Maya Angelou. Angelou has many titles including poet, author, civil rights activist, singer, dancer, actress, composer, & Hollywood’s first black woman director. Her words have struck the hearts of many. Her legacy will live on. #blackhistorymonth

3 days behind on my black history month posts. Today we are starting with Harriet Tubman. Harriet was an American abolitionist. After she was freed from slavery, she made 13 missions to rescue at least 70 enslaved people. Her bravery and selflessness will forever be honored. #blackhistorymonth

To those unfollowing since I began my book spotlight series for Black History Month…✌️

I’m not sure who you THOUGHT you were following, but on this account we uplift and celebrate marginalized voices, including books written by black authors. (and that’s all year ‘round folks).

Day 5: Langston Hughes was an American poet and a social activist. He was a leader of the Harlem renaissance. He was also believed to be apart of the LGBTQ+ community. “Equality is in the air we breathe. (There's never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this ‘homeland of the free.’)”

I missed yesterday’s post! So today’s first subject is Ruby Bridges. She was the first black student to attend a previously white only elementary school. She had to pass a test to determine if she could go to a white school. All of the teachers refused to teach if a black student was enrolled. #BHM

Day 3:Many people of the black community credited Malcom X to articulating the events of oppression & inequality better than any mainstream civil rights leader. “You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it.” #blackhistorymonth
