Numerous arrests and criminal charges brought by ICE against demonstrators in Chicago and the metropolitan area have been dropped today, because ICE misrepresented what went on, and video and other testimony showed that. I hope the judge deciding on the National Guard deployment pays attention.

Prosecutors today dropped misdemeanor charges against Hubert Mazur arrested at Broadview, accused of fighting officers trying to push the crowd back, according to the criminal complaint. The U.S. attorney said video of Mazur’s encounter with officers prompted them to drop the case. Chicago Trib

The Chicago couple, Ray Collins and Jocelyne Robledo charged by ICE with felonies of assaulting or resisting a federal officer in performance of official duties, which carries up to 8 years in prison, have been released because a grand jury refused to indict and the prosecutors dismissed the case.

The Judge who's been looking at ICE's not following the consent decree requiring criminal warrants for arrests now has extended the decree until next February, which means most of those improperly arrested must be released. This from the Chicago Trib today online.

Governor Pritzker and Mayor Johnson have sued the administration to prevent deployment of National Guard in the state. They argue that ICE is creating chaos by abusing both immigrants and citizens and doing violent, unlawful, and incompetent operations. The government has until Wednesday to answer.

House Speaker Mike Johnson claim it's a tradition to not allow in the newly elected Democratic House member Adelita Grijalva until the next full meeting. However, Democrats point out he swore in two Florida Reps last Spring outside of the full session, so tradition isn't against swearing her in now.

Quoted in NYT Business today, analysts at State Street Investment Management said "Persistent labor market weakness raises the risk of a recession of stagflation, supporting gold allocations."

Though Wall Street and the stock market are still flying high in their cosy insulation from the Trump administration's multiple large disruptions of people's lives worldwide, the anxiety and uncertainty in the background is causing the rise in gold prices due to attempts to move out of US assets.

S. Breidbart writes NYT about the cluelessness of Noem's threat to send ICE to the Super Bowl where Bad Bunny will be performing in Spanish. "Does he really believe that native Spanish speakers who may be here illegally and mostly work as laborers are spending thousands on Super bowl tickets?"

Implying that the next elections might not go wel for Republicans, Frank Bruni points out on NYT Op Ed that the KFF poll last Friday showed a 78% voter majority supporting the continuation of the Affordable Care Act tax credits for low income people, while only 22% opposed it.

Frank Bruni writes on the NYT Op Ed that while Trump et al.'s jokey vengeance on Blue states "have their ardent MAGA audience, they offer nothing to voters in the middle -- ...the ones who may well decide the most competitive House elections this year..."

J.K Byrne in Ohio writes NYT that commentators need to stop being surprised at Trump's contradictory and inconsistent governing. "...the president's disdain for consistency and his lack of concern for people are neither astonishing nor perplexing. The emperor is naked and has been for some time".

Well, the Supreme Court has made at least one recent decision that is resoundingly logical. They refused to hear Gislaine Maxwell's appear of her sentence. But Trump's ruminating on a pardon for her, which only makes him appear more implicated in her and Epstein's pedophily ring.

Our two American Nobel prize winners in medicine were so nonchalant that one, Mary Brankow, saw a call with a Swedish number, but figured it was a hack, and went back to sleep. The other, Fred Ramsdell missed his call because he was off hiking. The prize was for detecting an immune controller gene.

The guy ICE pepper-sprayed right in the face close-up wasn't interfering with any operations but merely speaking against their operations. This presidnetial militia just can't stand to listen the citizens performing their free speech rights.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

"This is supposed to be an oversight hearing" -- Schiff helpfully ticks through all of the incriminating questions -- and there are many of them -- that Bondi refused to answer during today's hearing
