I'm sharing one experience as you rightly said, not a counter argument and im not claiming it to be. To the first part yes you've come to your own conclusion based on multiple evidence and reports.

Which the UK media also suggested he was trying to invoke a civil war rather than commenting on what he saw and what it could inevitably lead to.

I think it's too far of a reach to suggest that he was inciting civil war, but rather at the time the divide amongst fellow Americans until the election was reaching heights that made it seem civil was inevitable. He made a similar comment about the UK during the July riots.

I had a close family member who is mixed race, lives in Canada and went back and forth across the border last week with no problem, so maybe this is exaggerated somewhat.
