my favourite book i read this past year was our share of night by mariana enriquez 🌙
it’s quite long though, so if that’s not your vibe i would also recommend her short story collections!

and also why I actually really enjoyed house of the dragon when I genuinely wasn’t expecting to… I know og GOT fans hated the focus on rhaenyra and alicent but i was loving it

I think this is why I felt dissatisfied by the ending of agatha - so much potential between these two women left completely unexplored

from the first ep, seemed like their relationship should have been a central focus but marvel has never been good at exploring relationships between characters tbh. always too focused on setting up what’s coming next to spend enough time fully realizing the current story

many, mainly wish they’d focused on agatha/rio. so many questions left - if teen was the one breaking agatha out of the spell, why was rio even there? so we know why agatha hates rio, but why is rio so angry? how was rio able to give agatha “time”? just so much potential to explore

i actually don’t teach, most of what i do is “behind the scenes” curriculum development! this happened during training for our summer student staff 😅

ooh “short and weird” has been exactly what I’ve been reading lately. I recently finished Thirst by Marina Yuszczuk, which might fit the bill depending on how you define hopeful… also Chlorine by Jade Song if you haven’t read it already, and Fifteen Dogs by André Alexis!

some that i’ve enjoyed recently: what we fed to the manticore by talia lakshmi kolluri, the guest by emma cline, you exist too much by zaina arafat, with teeth by kristen arnett, and i who have never known men by jacqueline harpman
