this doesn't speak for everyone, though
I got my rather tech illiterate boyfriend using linux with ease, so expecting everyone to have the same experience as you, especially over different times isn't very realistic IMO

to give a real world example, after citra (the 3ds emulator, if you do not know) was shutdown, initially there was multiple forks, but over the course of a few months, they've combined to create just one definitive continuation, and all work together for it

eh, apples to oranges I think, it's a fair criticism but it can't be universally applied. the linux community **is** becoming less divided over time, and I think a culture of collaboration over separation in the wider FOSS world is forming as well.

mint has been around for a long time, and the great thing about foss is that people can just, fix it
i wholeheartedly belive that most things like that just come from a desire to do so, as if they really just wanted to fix the problems, they would simply contribute.

yeah I understand that, I think that's an issue with mastadon and just with this concept applied to social media in general, but is less so with regular computer software.

that's your opinion, I think it is possible to an extent but see no use in trying to convince you of such, though I will agree that foss and it's community are more closely linked (much because of the size of it, I think)
