I hope this doesn’t sound sanctimonious, and I realize that it is something that suits my personality and others would rather enjoy the whole presents experience. Just suits our reality this year!

We asked our kids to give (time, money, skills, whatever) to someone in need in lieu of giving us presents this year. We need nothing, but want the joy of knowing they are doing some good in these awful times.

Apropos of nothing, I am in the camp that believes King Agrippa was being sarcastic when he told Paul he almost persuaded him to become a Christian. And, as the mother of a Gen Z young man, I know they are experts at appearing to be sincere as they ignore you.

I grew up hearing horror stories from my mom about a friend who had to live in an iron lung. Mom was crunchy/organic/alternative long before it was trendy. None of got our tonsils out or took the ubiquitous “pink stuff” for sore throats, but we sure as hell had all our vaccinations!!

Norman seems to be providing the “mansplaining uncle” service for those of us who may not have one of our own.

I could make a meal of mashed potatoes easily! Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Ahh. I miss that season so much! It just doesn’t get dependably cold enough here in NC.

Are they unusually hungry this year? Just wondering if this means they’re preparing for a harder winter.

Even assuming he got the lowest amount, that’s one heck of an engagement ring! I hope he put some aside for the actual wedding, house, etc. But I’m just living in my middle class reality. 🙂

Okay…I love the idea of gathering with friends/strangers/chosen family to feast and give thanks. But if “Thanksgiving” is a day for giving thanks, what are we giving on “Friendsgiving”? I acknowledge this is a losing battle and a tilting at windmills. 😁

Especially if you grew up being taught it was an explicitly sexual word, but now you realize it’s actually a fucking great adjective with much more scope of application.

I did that, too. Tried a complicated recipe from Cooks Illustrated complete with breaded and fried shallots for the topping. My family members were like, “What is this heresy?!”

Wow! I’ve seen so many different colorful bathrooms from that era, but this is the first purple one! My mom loved purple and I bet we would’ve had one like this if we’d been able to afford it.
