Another fantastic glove for this weather is unlined buck or goatskin. The Defeet above can even pair with them to make a warm duo. The key is a windbreaking layer. I don't personally start with insulated gloves/mittens until the 30s F (0-4 C) but your milage may vary

A lovely ride in to work today. Crisp, but not windy. Perfect chance to practice your layering skills if you wanted to try riding into late Fall or even Winter

So sad you can’t experience it

Truly. Thankfully it's getting a median/modal filter when University is reconstructed! The ironic story so far is that, against all odds, it's MDOT & Henn Co that is taking the lead (Lowry, Marshall, Central, University). The City is still on a do-the-least-possible trajectory in NE
adalehunt.bsky.social
Anyway, I would love for NE to get even one complete cycling facility. Last neighborhood in the City without one

(I don't count minor sections that don't connect to other facilities until they're connected, i.e. Johnson, 18th, 1st/Henn)

And 2nd St NE is getting reconstructed from Lowry to Broadway. A major bus line, school, hot new food epicenter, community center, etc are on this street. The City has a chance to do right, but I worry the Marshall reconstruction will be seen as "good enough" www.minneapolismn.gov/government/p...
2nd St NE, Broadway to Lowry Ave
The City will rebuild about 1 mile of 2nd Street Northeast between Broadway Street NE and Lowry Avenue NE.

13th Ave is set to be reconstructed from the river to 2nd St. By its own standards it should get a sidewalk-level protected facility. It's in the future, but public input is being taken www.minneapolismn.gov/government/p...
13th Ave NE, Water St to 2nd St NE
The City will reconstruct approximately 0.4 miles of 13th Ave NE, Water St to 2nd St NE

Once Central and Marshall are done in a few years, that will change the game significantly. Yet there isn't a truly complete, safe N/S or E/W connector between them

The City will have at least two chances to show they're actually committed to the AAA in Northeast/

So a section of an 80ft street gets no treatments whatsoever but it's often lifted up as the great Mpls example of a Bicycle Boulevard done right. Please.
adalehunt.bsky.social
So for instance take 5th St NE. Once it crosses south of Broadway it goes from 60ft to 80ft wide. At one point they put a few advisory lanes in until the mega intersection. But it got a chip seal treatments a few years ago and they haven't bothered repainting the Blvd indicator or the advisory lanes
adalehunt.bsky.social
Advisory Lanes - those dashes on Monroe, for instance - are the bottom rung facility according to the TAP. In any context they do not meet AAA standards. Except, that is, for sections of a Bicycle Boulevard. There they are transfigured into low-stress bikeways where everywhere else they aren't
adalehunt.bsky.social
The problem with Bicycle Boulevards is that there are a bunch of suggestions but almost no rules. So the City can do whatever it deems sufficient, up to and including nothing - as with most stretches of 22nd - and call it an All Ages and Abilities facility
adalehunt.bsky.social
Which isn't even to mention the absolute, total lack of wayfinding signage

This is why I agree with the Transportation Action Plan that "bicycle boulevards" should have been abandoned in favor of Neighborhood Greenways

There is one speed bump across from the library, and one across from a park next to Edison HS. That's the sum total of what might lead some people to believe it's a cycling facility at all. Not so much as a lost parking spot or some bumpouts
adalehunt.bsky.social
22nd Ave is one of the very few semi-continuous routes through NE that isn't Lowry or Broadway. It's said to have a "existing low-stress bikeway," but there are two and two only intersection treatments on its whole length: A ped refuge island at Johnson & a traffic circle at Polk

Doing the Unstuck is definitely my number one
