Special guest speakers have been around basically as long as coaches have, people just like to troll anyone they perceive as their enemy

Being so average with so much usage 😶

Part two of re-writing strikers, which includes my review of striker moves this past window and a look ahead at good targets to watch, is now up! Now if you'll excuse me, I've got some formulas to go fix..

In writing about striker transfer history I was reminded that the year Ekitike moved to PSG, they also signed both Kolo Muani and Ramos. Now he moves to Liverpool and they sign Isak. Seems like bad timing

I've made many drives from Wyoming to Minnesota and vice versa and one of my mottos is that I've literally never been happy to be arriving in Bismarck

Draw a relatively north-south ish line that goes up through Rapid City and Dickinson/Willison ND or eastern MT and that combined NE/CO/WY/Dakotas area is just pure unadulterated torture

One great thing about Arteta is he’s able to simultaneously piss of “yer da” fans who find his commitment to things like “motivation” and “team-building” cringe while also angering people who love “progressive football” and insist he’s a Spanish Tony Pulis

While out achieving most of their coaches

🔺 Clear code words
🔺 Hand signals
🔺 ‘Train hard, fight easy’

After Mikel Arteta revealed he invited the RAF to help Arsenal improve their communication, @dansheldon.bsky.social spoke to former fighter pilots to find out what they might have learnt ⤵️
What Arsenal can learn from the Red Arrows: Code words, hand signals, ‘train hard, fight easy’
Mikel Arteta is the latest example of a leadership figure in sport looking to the British armed forces for new ways to seek improvements

Here's how the Premier League table really looks according to Massey Ratings, which account for strength of schedule.

📈 Arsenal (+1.5) & Man City (+1.3) are clear strongest overall
😬 Man Utd (-0.2) rank in the bottom half
📉 West Ham & Forest (-1.2) are worst teams by far

I think it’s the kind of thing needed to turn a club like United around, and exactly where Amorim and Ten Hag have been so short!
adam.cannonstats.com
My best attempt at a guess is that Arteta is one of the strongest culture-builders we've seen run a football club in the modern era. That's been a consistent note since his first day on the job, that connection and relationships are very big with him. Just a guess!

Cole’s just preparing for his next goalless streak. I’ll be there

Suffice to say I don't think he plans to do a Neuer with Raya. Strong argument that hanging on to Neuer for too long has really cost Bayern a couple of times
adam.cannonstats.com
I actually think this is a pretty interesting tact by Arsenal, fwiw. Contract length has long been a way clubs really shoot themselves in the foot (Auba? Özil?) but with older players this can be a sort of best-of-both-worlds way to maintain control, continuity, leadership and flexibility at once
adam.cannonstats.com
Maybe, but as people who liked to criticize last summer's business would say...can't plan for that 😉

end of the day Arteta seems to find the setup with him and Eze off the left to be useful, wouldn't shock me to see more of it even when fully fit. Arteta likes him a lot and people forget that
adam.cannonstats.com
Definitely nowhere near Raya, but people around the time of the extension talked about him like he would never play
adam.cannonstats.com
Right, similar to the equation of paying a guy like Nelson/Nketiah the 100k wage on an extension vs buying someone new
adam.cannonstats.com
To be fair I think Trossard has already proven a lot of people wrong with regard to his relative level of worth to the squad and we're only in the first week October

Give him a wage more representative of his performance without assuming nothing will change three years from now, it's still a pretty big assumption

Yeah there's been some concern about making players less marketable (namely Trossard) but there are certainly cases where you'd rather have the player than the £15m or whatever you may fetch in the market anyway.
adam.cannonstats.com
So that makes two Arsenal players who have received higher pay without additional term, not an established industry practice but clearly something the leadership group are integrating going forward in cases where talent/performance justifies a raise but age prohibits an extension

The ADAM formula revisits striker history at long last! Part 1 tackles Osimhen, Isak, Ollie, Rhian Brewster, and that's just the start
