Elite offensive linemen in college rarely get the spotlight but deserve every NIL dollar. These 300-pound giants, aged 18-22, give overwhelmed QBs that crucial extra second in the pocket. 🏈 is a game of inches, but it’s also decided in fractions of a second on every play.

I take a certain perverse pride in the fact that I hadn’t even heard of Justin Baldoni until this week.

This one feels even less like Christmas Eve than last year.

Keith Olbermann is as famous for pissing people off as he is for punditry. But credit where it’s due: his daily audio dispatches—wildly over the top—are snappy, entertaining, and channel Walter Winchell’s rapid-fire delivery with Michael Cohen’s defiance.

There will come a point in Trump’s next term when he sends out checks, like during COVID. He knows how beloved those were at the end of his last term. This time, he’ll come up with a new reason to do it—but not until later in his term.

I wonder what the political motivation is behind releasing the Gaetz House ethics report tomorrow, especially with those heinous federal charges already public. What’s left to shift at this point?

Is the FBI more powerful today, with its expanded scope in cybersecurity and counterterrorism, or was it stronger during J. Edgar Hoover’s era, when it operated with far less oversight?

I think asking good questions comes from developing the habit of questioning as you read, while still moving forward to keep reading. Over time, the same questions arise across contexts. So, is the spontaneous, well-considered question even possible?

The analytics always favor going for it on 4th down, but they don’t account for extraneous factors like extreme cold or wind. Coaches will always go for it, regardless of context. 🏈

Left-leaning media on YouTube keep taking shots at MSNBC and CNN. Once considered allies, isn’t this the worst timing for ideological infighting? Or are their business models just at odds? #Cannibalism

People don’t change much—our personalities are mostly set early on. But look at culture over 80 years, and it’s a whole new world. Same people, different rules. Nothing deep, but an interesting paradox nonetheless.

The late Daniel Kahneman, Nobel-winning behavioral economist and one of the greatest minds ever, believed the ‘hot hand’ in sports, like basketball, is a cognitive illusion. While I respect his brilliance, I can’t agree. 🏀

The line between deploying dissociation and maintaining a healthy sense of presence under duress isn’t always clear in the moment.

Does SMU have a stronger case for postseason relevance this year than FSU did last year? 🏈

One advantage of reading a book over the Sunday newspaper: the narrative is usually logical, not a mental gymnastics routine trying to reconcile the irreconcilable. Does history even rhyme anymore—or should I just stop reading this book?

If you’re trying to play music and can recognize when the chords change, you’re already ahead of the game. The point is, you don’t need to be a musical savant or have perfect pitch to develop a good ear.

I didn’t realize how scarce and difficult it is to obtain a gun silencer until the tragic death of UnitedHealth’s CEO. While I’m glad it’s not easy, I worry about an increase in use given the apparent effectiveness of the assassin in this case.

MSNBC reporter notes, ‘Trump will sit down with our Kristen Welker,’ underscoring the value of staying tied to the news mothership. Also, with Comcast planning to spin off the network, it’s hard to imagine new regulatory leadership rolling out the red carpet for this new liberal venture. 📺

I’m beginning to think Mayor Adams is going to survive this. Good thing at least he showed up at the Al Smith dinner…

Obama’s first chief of staff famously said that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. His counterpart come January 20 will surely have plenty of opportunities to put that theory to the test.

Hope Kyle Neptune is firing up his guys with Cincinnati arriving on the Main Line as clear favorites tonight. Eric Dixon’s averaging 25 points, and the team shoots 80% from the line. Most importantly, Villanova victories outside the Big East help St. John’s in March. 🏀

Obama’s first chief of staff famously said in 2009 that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste. His counterpart starting in January might have plenty of reasons to wish he were wrong.

The renewed appetite for Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito says a lot, especially since we went through this last year too. People love the whole ‘Tommy Cutlets’ thing with his mom’s chicken cutlets. Unfortunately, he’s really not that good. 🏈
