I’m feeling thankful to get to spend another spring season walking transects in the Mojave desert looking for desert tortoises. I’m also feeling really sad & angry that this is likely the last year of this 25 year project as the current administration continues their assault on science. 🐢🐢🐢

Not a bad place to wake up. The views are big in the northern NV sagebrush landscape. This is my 15th year of heading south for my field biology work season in the Mojave Desert…I hope it all holds up. This will be our home for the next few months!

I’m ready to take on the day after enjoying this pot of Japanese Kukicha Karigane green tea from Shizuoka.
After spending a few weeks up in the deep snow country of Tohoku & Hokkaido, its mighty nice to be back in early spring and wandering around the Minowa, Asakusa and Ueno neighborhoods in Tokyo for our final few days of our 4th Japan trip. It’s hard to leave this beautiful country!
