Traffic engineers designed this road for speed, ignoring (intentional even?) that there is an elementary school and library here that attract people of all ages and abilities, not just abled drivers.

Of the many implausible things, one is people would ride horses if all the cars are defunct.
We’d be much more likely to ride bikes. Simple, robust, no fuel, widely available, nimble and fast.
