Most right wing think tankers in the early 2010s were spads 5 years later. I know because I had to deal with them occasionally and they were so outrageously moronic that civil servants had to endlessly apologise on their behalf

Isn't it the other way round? The billionaires that own the media maintain the social prohibition on the far-right only as long as centre-right parties are in the ascendency. The moment a period of centre-left political dominance looms, that prohibition mysteriously disappears

I think we have a debate between centre-left and centre-right economic theory currently, its just that its two halves of the same cabinet briefing against each other. All the AI boosterism, planning deregulation, sacking the head of CMA stuff, is solidly centre right.

They're following the republicans trajectory, when your economic policies have been tried and failed and your opponent is centre right anyway, you don't have much else to say, so leverage your client media to pivot to regressive social wedge issues
