Swiped Out
@adatingdad.bsky.social
40-something single dad of four, bloody happy with life.
If someone doesn’t remake Porridge but set in this prison instead then we’re missing a trick.

£4.69 for a single sausage roll?!

We used to be a country. A great country.

Some prick smashed into my car at some point while it was parked, then drove off without leaving details.

And as there's nobody else to claim from, my insurance company are now saying it'll go down as me being at fault.

Bastards.

Love a wrong number.

So glad I’m not on gas and instead my house uses oil. The whole gas container - which heats two houses - cost me £600 in August and I’ve still got over half left.

I’ve no idea how people afford to heat their homes on gas these days.

I finished at 3.30am. My kids woke up at 5.30am.

I’m already looking forward to my afternoon nap on the sofa.

Time to start wrapping.

Nearly forgot to put the missletoad out.

How will people kiss at Christmas if there’s no missletoad to kiss under?!

My gf is veggie, but thank fuck she’s not militant about it…
December 22, 2025 at 10:20 PM
But for now I think it’s finished.

How the hell do I wrap it, though??
December 21, 2025 at 5:15 PM
I think I might be just about done. Scrubbed up all the hinges (turns out under the grime that they’re all brass), and fitted it all back together again.

I’ve added scented drawer lining paper so it’ll smell nice when she opens the drawers.

Will take proper photos in the daylight.

Slowly getting there - how can one object need SO MUCH SANDING?!

Gave it the first coat of wax, and also touched up the lettering.

Finally got round to doing the outdoor lights.

Need more, though.

Made a bit more progress - I’ve sanded until my hands are buzzing.

The curved bits are a nightmare - this is taking ages and I’m nowhere near finished!
December 11, 2025 at 11:33 PM
Made progress. The newer varnish (from 1982 according to the woman it was bought from) has come off nicely, but the older stuff on the legs is much tougher.

The machine itself is coming up sparkling, though.

Time to start work on one of the Christmas presents for my gf - refurbishing this old Singer sewing machine and table.

80 years of grime and scrapers of varnish to remove.

This hot water bottle for my feet might be the best thing I’ve EVER bought.

Just be careful, or you might have to replace your pans...

Same! My brother got me two for my birthday and they make me smile whenever I see them!

Realised I could hook up my Mac to my telly, so did what any grown man would do:

Played Football Manager on the big screen.

(I’m 45 years old…)

Imagine living in the age when the invention of sliced bread was the best thing EVER.

Simpler times. Good times.
