UN experts raise ‘grave concern’ over treatment of Palestine Action-linked hunger strikers
Special rapporteurs say handling of prisoners raises questions over UK’s obligations under human rights laws
UN experts have expressed “grave concern” for the wellbeing of Palestine Action-affiliated hunger strikers and warned their treatment raises questions about the UK’s compliance with international human rights laws.
Eight prisoners have been on hunger strike while awaiting trial for alleged offences relating to Palestine Action before the group was banned under terrorism legislation. Qesser Zuhrah, 20, and Amu Gib, 30, who are being held at HMP Bronzefield in Surrey, were on hunger strike from 2 November to 23 December. Heba Muraisi, 31, who is at HMP New Hall, joined the pair on 3 November. The group also includes Teuta Hoxha, 29, Kamran Ahmed, 28, and Lewie Chiaramello, 22, who is refusing food every other day because he has diabetes. Continue reading...

So Trump is just introducing VAT as a federal tax, but businesses won’t be able to claim it back and it will apply to everything. Including essential items like food and children’s clothing etc.

If a green politician in America has said this as a way to reduce consumption and help reduce global warming they would be absolutely destroyed by the right wing press.

Eye-opening graph. The biggest wildfire incidents in the UK don't occur when it's hottest, in high summer: they take place in April - *when landowners set fire to their grouse moors & lose control of burns.*

The architects for @manchesterairport.bsky.social need their heads examined, hundreds of millions spent on a new terminal and then design about 6 toilets in the whole thing. Got to hope they add more before transferring all T3 flights to it.

Don’t know if this is what he is doing but it makes more sense than the blanket tariffs he has introduced. I also think it’s about putting SME’s out of business and let big companies take market share.

Brexit has never looked quite so ruinously insane as it does right now. And it’s always been idiotic. Alone, outside the EU, needing to improve our relationship with our own continent but also terrified of the wrecking-ball lunatic in the White House. Cornered by our own ‘sovereign’ stupidity.
