London. Exploring here. Let’s see
It is a glass. If you were street drinking/walking & drinking, you would naturally drink from a can or bottle, not draught from a glass

Presumably, Sky News has therefore *elected* to film in the vicinity of pub (& one populated by stereotypes, at that). Or draught beer has come from elsewhere

Nah, it’s still going…I use Crystal Palace (overground but still TfL) regular lol army and that is one

Believe Oval is still in play, too

Wogan was Irish of course but an absolute UK EV legend. Did it for years and it was basically his show 😂. Tough boots to fill x

In UK,we had the late Terry Wogan & was always a v tongue-in-cheek, eye-rolling joy. Esp the political voting

Was in Poland over EV in late 90s (note timing) & totally different approach…everyone took it so seriously & was source of real national pride. No piss-taking at all. V odd for me,as a Brit

Want this to happen *so* much, even if CD doesn’t perform.🤞🏻 Is right & proper,w/ all things in their rightful place

Also just discovered Eurovision’s origins story: not for Euro unity but originally conceived in the mid-1950s as a technical experiment in simultaneous transnational TV broadcasting.

Audiobooks are wonderful & I consume a lot of them - but is a v different experience to reading-reading. Imo,less satisfying & calming & I engage w the words v differently. Have refined the type of books I listen to as otherwise miss so much (mostly political/social commentary; big picture works ok)

Hope your pup’s still going strong 🐾

Yeah, online can be vitriolic AF (tho not always easy for me to tell what’s real account & what’s manufactured, too)

Was referring above more irl,to drivers of eg voting Reform etc

Also, not saying hate doesn’t exist - it does,of course - just that sometimes may actually be other factors playing out
November 17, 2024 at 1:49 PM
I don’t understand what you mean - ppl on the run in Spain, for example? A tit-for-tat thing?

Agree to disagree but imo deprived towns needing investment is core to the rise of Reform, places the main parties have forgotten & not delivered🙏🏻. But yeah def needs long-term solution that doesn’t help now
November 17, 2024 at 11:17 AM
I also think shaking up the system is a bloody good thing tbh. Would that it could be done otherwise but, in reality, would it happen otherwise…
November 17, 2024 at 11:11 AM
So when ppl (not saying you, btw) just shout ‘racist’ at ppl who vote Reform, is not gonna change anything because (a) it looks at the manifestation only, w/out addressing the cause; (b) nobody ever changed anyone’s mind by trying to shame & shout names at them, positions just become more entrenched
November 17, 2024 at 11:10 AM
Yes,dislike how this narrative manifests but at its heart is rooted in economics. Pledges such as ‘imagine good wages for a hard day’s work’ sound a lot like old-school,pre-Blair, Labour-Labour,when Lab still cared abt class. Is the Trump playbook. Economics

Am never gonna be voting Reform but as much as anything else they’re not relevant to me - they’re not proposing solutions (or perceived solutions) to real-world problems I have (the housing situation is a real one but the roots of that lie elsewhere) & my priorities are aligned in accordance w/ that
November 17, 2024 at 10:36 AM
My direct experience of multi-culturalism is as a brilliant, positive force - but am not being undercut by ppl from other countries in only available jobs in my area, let’s say an area w/ already inadequate access to affordable housing too & limited integration between different cultures, for example
November 17, 2024 at 10:29 AM
Hear you,tho think few ppl actively advocate hate; more, everyone’s world view is shaped through the prism of their experiences & takes different forms
I don’t mean extremes eg burning down migrant hostels etc(tho would argue still a need to listen to what’s driving that, awa consequences for actions)
November 17, 2024 at 10:29 AM
And a lot of “we”…”we think this”, “we like that”, “we don’t do that here”

I find the really overt tribalism off-putting - don’t go speaking for me, I have a mind, mouth & keyboard of my own, thanks😂🙏🏻

(+dull: as a Brit/European,American politics would not be the anchor to build my identity around)
November 17, 2024 at 9:24 AM
Not the last sentence, not irl, it’s American/online culture wars stuff. My experience in Ldn/SE anyway is ppl bob along just fine, w/ all sorts of different politics & opinions (Brexit, lockdown,post-Covid positions..) Less so in more liberal circles actually.

The tide comes in, the tide goes out.
November 17, 2024 at 9:15 AM
Because it’s the *result* of your democracy, so effectively the opposite: it shows it’s working. Not liking the result of that democracy is a different matter

& what hasn’t happened yet, hasn’t happened yet…people said the same in first term & your system proved its checks & balances to be robust
November 17, 2024 at 9:04 AM
They would (or should) have.

Vibes are vibes but,as a business,it’s just another social media app. Even more so as BSky’s USP appears to be that it has no USP,it’s just a copy of X (Dorsey said as much when he left here).

These challenges are fundamental to the model, neither new nor groundbreaking
November 17, 2024 at 8:57 AM
Don’t worry about it. Focus on people who are interested in the points & substance of what you’re saying, not just engaging w/ how you’ve presented it.Language is a communication tool on SM & English in particular varies so wildly across regions/countries/continents.This smug hierarchical stuff is BS
November 17, 2024 at 8:27 AM
Well, that part at least is familiar! So entertainment based socials still OK (& ByteDance not an issue in same way as Washington)

Govts everywhere hate/fear X specifically.

Thank you. It is an unjust situation for digital rights/free expression imo but I hope unfolds gently for users in Pakistan🙏🏻
November 17, 2024 at 1:25 AM
(Having said which,Telegram’s Durov was arrested in Paris; tho for specific targeted activities rather than broad country-wide censorship & certainly w/out the religious dimension,so *not* to draw false equivalence. But regulation-loving Eur is not immune from social media pressure right now either)
November 17, 2024 at 12:33 AM
Do you think users in Pakistan would return to X if they could, or are you also seeing there the parallel stream of toxicity, algo changes etc influencing this shift?

Apols for all the questions but are so many seismic changes occurring in so many spheres simultaneously, whole landscapes are shifting
November 17, 2024 at 12:15 AM
Even if Musk can’t address this directly as he could w/ Brazil, will be interesting to see the indirect influence he bears as part of the incoming US Administration. Altho there are of course geo-political limits to how greatly it can/is willing to interfere in a sovereign nation’s internal affairs
November 17, 2024 at 12:12 AM
Yeah, this is a v different concern / reality to the one I experience w/ X in Western Europe.

Is Bluesky a real solution to this, though? I thought part of Dorsey’s leaving was due to it shifting away from its decentralised potential (& now see Mastodon’s appeal more clearly for users in Pakistan)?
