Yesterday, I spent the day ignoring the news, immersed in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, battling Nazis and fascists—it felt all too fitting for the times.

Then I turn on the news today and see a Nazi salute at the inauguration. Unreal.

As we approach the end of the year of our lord 2024, somehow Google Drive still doesn’t support the HEIC image file format that half the cell phones in the world produce. Every week I hopefully try to upload a photo into a presentation and am met with the same disappointing error.

I have faced fascism before, in this very country. I was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans summarily rounded up and expelled from our homes at gunpoint, all for the crime of looking like the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.

I spent my childhood behind barbed wire. My parents lost everything. 1/
