Another issue is that we've been so brainwashed to shitty business practices that we look at a company doing the bare minimum and consider them to be the gold standard. It also allows us to gloss over their shadyness like the existence of the skin economy and the negative of their internal opacity.
As exciting as the valve-cube is, I get a little worried that steam is starting to enter its own monopoly over the games industry.
I think best possible outcome is that other gaming companies are gonna realize why people love steam so much compared to them and will start making moves towards that.
