My FB memories are starting to come up with art posts, which is incredible, bc previous to a year ago I hadn't drawn at all since 2019, so I'd like to shout out to @tadethompson.bsky.social, @adorkastock.com & @nyxnaiastock.bsky.social, who were instrumental in getting me drawing again 💗 #CatieDraws

a pencil sketch of a man's head. this was one of the "more supposed to watch than do" lessons, but as we all know by now, I don't follow instructions very well. The idea behind this one is 'blocking out' shapes for faces, but honestly, I think you have to be better at drawing than I am for it to be a place to start. The result here isn't bad, but his head is a bit too narrow through the temples, too wide through the jaw, too short in the nose, and a little too long of chin. And I've just noticed his hairline is kind of crooked. But the mouth is good and while I don't necessarily LIKE the shading job I've done, it's pretty good around the eyes. The entire thing, mind you, is wrong from the outset, bc he's supposed to have his head tilted down a little and...just doesn't. Because I'm not good enough to start where the instructor started. Yup.
