He's an intriguing talent. There have been times when it's looked like he has huge quality, but just needs the pace of the PL to be slightly slower, but today he was immense.

Yes, I'm sure that he's a seriously impressive individual in many ways, and, more generally, that the armed services give people meaningful leadership responsibilities, much younger than you would get in most other walks of life. Not sure that's always transferable to senior political roles, though

Maybe it's a bit of an under-estimating the electorate thing? 'We' know that a Short Service Commission in the RAF doesn't confer magical powers, but we think that the voters love a uniform?

So perhaps the difference is that we place greater trust in the current Chinese leadership to behave in a predictable and rational way? Which is not a great place to be, it's true. I don't blame journalists for asking the question, though.
