Since dried apricots are very good preserved food, sounds like they may just have been part of ration supplies so I'd (possibly cynically) guess they may have been specifically Noticed due to their exotic origins

As far as anyone can tell, because whenever there was a breakdown or onboard malfunction or fire, they kept noticing there were apricots on board. So it just became a rule. Not clear if tank problems decreased afterwards! Started WW2, still a common belief in Vietnam.

Vaguely related, we just discovered yesterday that the US Marines are superstitious about anyone bringing apricots inside a tank (they don't like it). Not that they seem like the target market for Amaretto.

(Also this debate specifically turns very quickly toward highly committed behaviourists arguing against those with less reductive theories of cognition, usually taking their view on behaviouralism as a given when that's the key point that they ought to argue, so it'a all proxy argument anyway)

Isn't the issue around these Bsky hypotheticals that they're too hazy to be usefully discussed? Committed believers in any particular direction interpret the vagueness of the scenario to match their view, so you get "if we had AGI we'd have AGI" vs "if we had a lucky parrot we wouldn't have AGI".

Buddo, meet Domo, some images just resonate down through the centuries
a stuffed animal that looks like a shark with its mouth open

Ah yes, fair enough, had forgotten that kidneys usually come from living donors. Well, will discard that as trivia, good catch!

As a UK person, I'm pretty sure any show except maybe Channel 4 will be selecting for legal commentators who will make the BBC sound as bad as possible, rather than straight analysis. Putting the boot into the Beeb is one hobby that unites all our media!

Excellent nugget, thank you! So a human on average has less than 2 arms but also more than 2 kidneys. Surely some day this knowledge will come in useful! most likely in a pub conversation

Agree - horseshoe theory (especially when it's a used as glib throwaway) feels to me like they're running the syllogism: A) far right politics is authoritarian B) far left politics is authoritarian, therefore C) far right = far left.
And the clearest thinkers will also cancel out the "far"s.

...but then I remembered DJ Yoda's How To Cut And Paste Mix Tape Vol 1 (2001) and now i'm listening to that instead

Just looked and it's not yet on the master list, but at this point who would even know if it could be 🤷‍♂️

I was about to go & listen to this to see what the fuss is about, then started wondering what else might disqualify a release, then thought about compilation albums, but obviously those aren't a recording artist's album in any real sense, but... 1/

My credentials: don't think I'd ever heard of Wilco till all this kicked off; am a part-time pedant.
I go back to first principles: this is about finding the best album of 2001.
Sod all the release date arguments, the zeitgeist & culture wherein it was composed and finished was that of a 2001 album.

So I agree he didn't kill her and that Bobby's broadly blessed future goes on.
Here's a possible parallel: now Steven has taken himself out of the picture because he hates his evil side & addictions, his ex won't be pulled along by his charisma; maybe she'll turn around & find a great future.

First time round, my reading of his last scene was that Becky has finally left him; he's devastated & blaming himself & how he wrecked his potential. Gersten is trying to talk him down and say no, it was Becky. I've never really understood where anyone picked up the idea she's been killed.

It would have so easy if one of our contestants were either of my most-listened-to 89ers 'The Road To Hell' or 'Pop Said...', but at least I can just vote for the one that's obviously closer in tone 👍

Was never into the Cure, but I do stan All About Eve, so I guess that aligns a bit on genre. I liked Wave of Mutilation (was on one of the Rock Band games), and I've got Surfer Rosa on CD - somehow a lot more to my taste than this one.
