An #MLKDay message from the stage of @bambrooklyn.bsky.social.

We cannot allow leaders to sanitize Dr. King’s mission, to sound-byte his revolution, when they oppose the very principles he fought for.

As today's violence against protesters echoes the past, the movement for justice calls us.

We celebrated nurses with pots and pans in 2020. Let's thank them today with a fair contract.

We stand with #NYSNA in their righteous fight for safe staffing, fair working conditions and benefits, and patients over profits.

“Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice."

We're proud to join Theater of War, New York leaders, and activists and artists for a reading of Dr. King's "The Drum Major Instinct." RSVP: www.eventbrite.com/e/the-drum-major-instinct-tickets-1980578314053

Thank you to our partners who joined us for an impactful roundtable on federal housing cuts and shifting federal priorities.

With HUD facing more than $3 billion in proposed budget cuts, we must work together to seek solutions and proactively protect the communities we serve.

The nurses who are striking would rather be with their patients.

But they know that better working conditions, safer staffing levels, and fair contracts are essential for patient safety. So we'll be on the picket line as long as it takes, showing nurses the same support they show us.

We have the right to record—and the right to bear witness.

Hear from the Public Advocate on how to exercise your right to document law enforcement, and the immigration enforcement that is escalating in cities like ours.

We must use every tool we have to protect our neighbors.

It's been three days and a @council.nyc.gov data analyst has not been released.

ICE is detaining public servants—ignoring legal authorization to work in the US. ICE wants to send a chilling message, but our city will bring the heat to defend New Yorkers who help our communities run.

Raise the Age was meant to keep young people as young people and keep out of the worst harms of the system.

The law is working—despite the bad faith attacks.

Now, Albany must make good on its promise to invest in youth, fully funding Raise the Age-related intervention programs.

From the Public Advocate:

"I offer prayers for peace and comfort to Claudette Colvin’s family and community as we grieve a civil rights icon. Her story was too often overlooked, her name too often discounted, but her bravery too extraordinary to put to words." [1/4]

The detention of a @council.nyc.gov employee is an attack on public workers, organized labor, and local government's ability to serve its people.

Deputy Public Advocate Elizabeth Kennedy stood with Council Members, staff, and union members to demand this employee's immediate release.

On January 1, New Yorkers took an oath with us, to not let go of anyone's hand.

Those words have been needed more urgently than ever in the days since. Our fears, felt deeply from Minneapolis to NYC, are real. But so is our commitment to justice, and to keeping one another safe.
January 13, 2026 at 5:50 PM
Most New Yorkers have a story of owing our well-being, or our loved ones' well-being, to a nurse—including the Public Advocate, whose life was saved by nurses.

Patient and nurse safety is linked, and we stand with @nynurses.bsky.social in their fight for a fair contract and safe staffing.

Keith Porter Jr. Renee Nicole Good. Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez.

We march for all souls violently taken from us by ICE. We march for peace, and for democracy.

No wars. No kings. No ICE.

It was humbling to join impacted New Yorkers and advocates in the Bronx, to lift up the seventeen souls lost in the Twin Parks fire.

Fires continue to burn across our city, often as buildings fall into disrepair. Tenant safety, and fire safety protections, must be prioritized.

Kristi Noem came to New York City yesterday.

We sought to ask her a few questions, alongside press. But this regime rejects democratic values. They know it's harder to lie when pushed for accountability.

Yet New Yorkers won't give up.

We have a mayor now who puts tenant rights and housing justice at the forefront—but we have to clean up his predecessor's actions.

After years and years of tenants suffering and organizing, we finally passed COPA into law. Now, @council.nyc.gov must override the former mayor's veto.
January 8, 2026 at 11:01 PM
Today, Kristi Noem had the gall and audacity to spout her hateful policies, even after Renee Nicole Good was murdered by an ICE agent.

The devil's work is being unleashed. Whether in Venezuela, Minneapolis, and New York City, we must oppose it.

In the face of federal cuts, New York is united in supporting families.

We thank @mayor.nyc.gov and @governor.ny.gov for their commitment to expanding universal childcare. We've proudly rallied with caregivers to fight for such an investment in our youth's future.

An authoritarian's agents just shot a mother in the face.

Shame.

New Yorkers, they are coming to our city. Link arms with your neighbors and let the authoritarian regime see we will love stronger than they hate. We fight back in love, but will fight nonetheless.

Whatever your new year's resolution, we hope New Yorkers' holiday wishes come true.

As 2025 comes to an end, we're looking forward to a safer and more affordable New York City for us all in 2026.

This holiday season, we hope you find joy.

There's a lot of darkness in the world, but we can each try to be the light we hope to see in the world.

✨ Happy Holidays, New York City!

On National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, we grieve anyone whose life or health has been taken by homelessness.

Mourn for the dead, fight like hell for the living.

And choose empathy, in the words of housing justice activist Andrew Chappotin.

Thanks to our team for a festive holiday party!

From a highly anticipated cheesecake reveal (the "Black & White Cookie" flavor won the election) to a raucous game of office Family Feud, these moments fuel our work.

We hope all New Yorkers find joy and togetherness this holiday season.

ICYMI: We passed two bills in the @council.nyc.gov last night. The first will help prevent street and subway flooding by improving catch basin maintenance.

The second, part of a #StreetVendorReform package, establishes the Division of Street Vendor Assistance. More:
