Tates is evil and needs to be in jail, forever. But at this point, given his notoriety, if you are a woman of 23 and you seek out a relationship with him then that's the equivalent of sticking a fork into wall socket; you can't really be surprised at the result.

Yeah I generally reject victim blaming, but at this point, seriously, wtf is wrong with that woman

People bought a ton of stuff in the 4th quarter because they were afraid of the threatened tariffs

What does this look like to you? 28f, patient's sister has spherocytosis and MM. Blood film is normal. Doctors have been brushing her off (in the UK).

To be fair, if there was a coherent plan for a coup/autocratic takeover, the Trump regime probably wouldn't be screwing the military and the states so hard.
March 19, 2025 at 3:41 AM
if they can resist this impulse and focus on looting, the regime will have a much longer life expectancy. But I don't think that they will. Cruelty is the point. 2/2

The inherent problem of the upcoming "populist" Trump autocracy is that the core objective of GOPsters and billionaires that drive it is to hurt the middle and working class by taking their healthcare and Social Security away. That is indeed very destabilizing; 1/2

This is one of those "over the stove" things, right? Like a hood?

They're famously unreliable.

TBH it does sound like a lot of fun

and then those tools, rather then help them think about the world, greatly limit their thinking and understanding, and some of the (often very simplistic) assumptions on which underlie these models have become a narrow-minded ideology. The shock of the GFC improved things a bit, but not enough. 2/2

A problem with economists is that they are excessively fond of their mathematical models; in many cases, they act and think as if they do not understand that these are very imperfect tools, crutches, for grappling with reality; they become unable to think outside of the confines of models, 1/2

An infusion in the 3rd trimester doesn't help during trimester 1 and 2 and is expensive.

Every second day works if pt is absorbing iron reasonably normally (this is the majority, ofc). In pt with low absorption the hepcidin spike is less pronounced and more frequent dosing can work better.

There are iron-fortified foods such as Kellogg's Cornflakes which contain quite a lot of iron. You could try eating those on a regular basis.

Any idea wtf this could be? Patient 21f, seriously symptomatic, HCT 32.6 (36-46), HGB 12.2, MCV 92, MCHC 37.4, RDW 12.7, chronically low glucose? I'm kind of at a loss. Differential and platelets are normal.

If you like trauma-inspired literature, you should read this book. Or listen to the audiobook, which is one of the best-produced on Audible.

Yeah I thought it looked really ominous when I saw those initial results.
January 4, 2025 at 5:49 AM
an incredible amount of money has been wasted on useless real estate and infrastructure, debt is piling up and prospects (and the national mood) are depressed where before it was very optimistic, and birth rates are unsustainably low. 2/2

And it's usually applicable, and I thought that if I looked at the whole of humanity, things probably got better 2014-2024. But then I reflected that they likely got better 2014-2019, but not thereafter. Specifically in China, while the per capita income is now higher than it was 2014, 1/2
January 4, 2025 at 5:28 AM
Yeah, in this case, it is true that a lot of things have gotten worse :)

But it's SUCH a good quote....
January 3, 2025 at 5:30 PM
"Things used to be better" is the rallying cry of small minds. When men say things used to be better, they mean they were better for THEM, because they were young, and had all their hopes intact. The world is bound to look a darker place as you slide into the grave.

Just to conclude this - follow-up labs were normal, so looks like this in fact was an asymptomatic viral infection.
