Apparently my exposed doorstep is actually an 'enclosed porch' and my 'safe place'. Haven't had a red card at ages, just parcels left out in the rain to be nicked...

Hmn... Totally possible. I'll have to do some more digging... It could be that he went to Ottery before and only went back to live in Uffculme after he married, and it only became an issue when they hit hard times.

ThankU. Not sure that's the answer unless he'd lost his place of settlement somehow. He was b. in #Uffculme, marr in #OtteryStMary, but lived in Uffculme for the birth of his first 3 children. His wife wd have gained settlement in Uffculme. Then the removal order takes them off to Ottery again.
