the degree to which tron as a "franchise" has been inflated to be some epic, legendary thing, and not a kinda schlocky but visually definitive genre exercise, is super, super weird. the first tron flopped! tron legacy did middling business (and it came out 15 years ago)! what did people expect?

one of the "nice" things* about collecting 4k blu-rays is that eventually you will probably hit the point where big sales will happen and you'll realize you already have all the discs you want from those selections already.

just double checked against the version on peacock and it's definitely a lot sharper on paramount+, and the colors are much different — audio is also fuller across channels, so this def seems like a proper remaster.

for the dozens of people who care, it certainly *looks* like the 4k version of from dusk til dawn that robert rodriguez supervised — and which was supposed to be released on 4k disc but got canceled at the last second — is on paramount+. even on streaming, it looks really, really good.

It was super impressive but also from spring of 2004 to spring of 2005 we were coming off butcher bay, far cry, doom 3, and halo 2, so it felt more like a continuation of the big paradigm shift in game visuals (and then a couple of months later the 360 reveal event happened).
