"Other layers" first and foremost meaning easy/reliable tools for migration and managing backups and rotation keys, so you aren't fked if your shared pds goes down.

imo it's reasonable to say those "scale" better than having everyone self host the actual pds

while "typically privileged males" is uhh certainly a turn of phrase, i don't think the argument is wrong?

like i'm not sure having literally everyone running their own personal servers makes sense as a goal, especially not over focusing on building shared infra at other layers besides pds hosting

the difference is that old posts become undeniably non-canonical (it would be impossible to fool anyone that they're your current posts, whereas on nostr you'd need positive proof of a retraction event). but in some cases I imagine that's small comfort

well ok, hard if you want live updates. but if you are fine with occasionally pulling the data from constellation then it's fairly trivial

you could build a blocklist based on who subscribes to a different blocklist easily enough, no?

afaict the lack of a canonical address for data also means you can't ever delete your posts. at best you can publish "retraction" events.

imo this is kind of a barrier to mainstream adoption
