But perhaps favorite part was the gift shop, which is in the stables... with these amazing bronze horse rings for tying up steeds in the courtyard...

First visit to "Sisi's" palace, the Achilleion, on Corfu this trip. Building itself closed for massive restoration, so couldn't see the famous frescoes of Achilles & Hector, but did see the swooning Achilles & HUGE bronze Achilles (see person for scale) in the stunning gardens. (1/2)

First visit to "Sisi's" palace, the Achilleion, on Corfu this trip. Building itself closed for massive restoration, so couldn't see the famous frescoes of Achilles & Hector, but did see the swooning Achilles & HUGE bronze Achilles (see person for scale) in the stunning gardens. (1/2)

A favorite tree in Athens. For a long time, it seemed just to be an ancient colossal stump, and I assumed it was dead, if a handsome piece of wood. Then last year it burst into leaf again. Maybe it was just in shock earlier? Rather glorious this year. (Photo: John Psaropoulos.)
