I seem to recall that rebate checks were part of the fascist nightmare Sinclair Lewis imagined in 1935. Checks never did happen! Gotta remember.

I’m still haunted by Ira Katznelson’s argument that it was the hold of the legislative branch that kept the US from falling into fascism in the 1930s. True, they were a bunch of white racists, but they held the senate.
