Dogsitting became an impromptu dog portrait session.

Set up a backdrop and strobe for our guest Gryff, the little Terrier, and our Mia, the black pup. The eyes always tell the story, doesn’t matter how many legs your subject has.

The Tate reshared The Weather Project on Instagram and I’m back in that Turbine Hall, lying among strangers under Olafur Eliasson’s artificial sun. Art as congregation.

That experience planted seeds for every art project I’ve created since. Some work never leaves you.

Finished Patti Smith’s book “Bread of Angels”.

Made me think about my own circles and stumbles, the people already gone, the strange path to here. No straight lines. Maybe that’s the point.

It’s so warm in Los Angeles, this morning we saw a West Hollywood squirrel licking a frozen yogurt spoon.

What a perfect film, Hamnet, the new Chloé Zhao movie. Jessie Buckley’s performance is astonishing to be honest, and Paul Mescal’s too. With the added bonus of the always amazing Emily Watson. Cinematography by Lukasz Zal.

I’ll be processing this for a while, but I am in awe 🥹

Watched The Stringer on Netflix. Heavy-handed at times, but raises important questions about war photography: How do we credit work? How were local photographers treated during conflicts?

Worth watching for anyone thinking about attribution in photography and journalism.

The moon is beautiful tonight.

I don’t have my tripod with me, but managed to get a quick capture by hand.

My daily reminders that creativity needs space to breathe. These two don’t care about my shot list or client emails. Just the quality of afternoon light and whether I’ve been sitting too long.

Best creative directors I’ve ever worked with, their only note is always “go outside.”

Today is World AIDS Day. For the first time since 1988, our government has chosen silence.

My feed is filled with photographs of people lost, strangers whose faces feel so close. I'm old enough to have known some. Young enough to have missed the worst, but not the trauma.

Some photos from a Thanksgiving detour to Point Reyes. Fog, empty roads, and a swimmer diving into Drake's Beach like 50 degrees was nothing.

Different breed.

Some photos work best on screens, others are meant for walls.

I just curated a 'Best Sellers' folder, the prints that look incredible at 30"+.

Drove up to Point Reyes for a beach picnic at Drake’s Beach yesterday. On the way back, this bull elk appeared on a ridge, completely still, watching us below.

So mesmerizing to look at 😍

This little cutie said hi this morning and I managed to get a quick photo with my camera before he flew away.

Thank you, hummingbird ❤️‍🩹

Good morning!

Sharing some fresh crisp air from Northern California. I can’t believe we’re almost at Thanksgiving…

Shorebird flock at Shollenberger Park, Petaluma. Sometimes the best thing for portrait work is to photograph something entirely different. Pattern and motion as creative reset.

Thanksgiving drive up the 5 to the Bay Area.

People call it monotonous, but I love how the light changes across the Central Valley, storm clouds over the Grapevine, dusk settling in, the endless straight line.

Honored to judge the upcoming VES Awards nominations.

After 20+ years in VFX at major studios, it’s meaningful to support the community that shaped my understanding of light, story, and craft. The work continues to inspire, whether I’m using a render farm or a camera.

Already enjoying this new round of rain in LA.

End of another color day in LA. Kevin from Up and the kid from La Luna make their sunset appearance over my monitors.

Small moments that make long computer sessions better. Animation work behind, photography work up front.

Love + War on Hulu captures both the essential work and personal cost of conflict photography through Lynsey Addario's career. A necessary watch for anyone who wants to understand what photojournalism actually demands of those who practice it at the highest level.

In love with this perfection of a film by Richard Linklater “Nouvelle Vague” about the making of Breathless by Jean-Luc Godard.

With beautiful cinematography by David Chambille, if you love film and black-and-white photography, you’re in for a treat.

On Netflix now too.

Every time it rains hard in LA, I think about tropical rainstorms in Haiti years ago. How they’d roll through, electricity cutting out, everything stopping.

We’d end our days at a small café, having a local beer, talking to locals. The rain created its own rhythm.

Cozy and stormy LA weather this weekend. Perfect excuse to catch up on errands, continue reading, watch films, work on photography. Weather like this makes you slow down. The city gets quieter, light goes soft.

Sometimes the work is just being present.

Bugonia. Another incredible film by Yorgos Lanthimos with outstanding performances by Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons.

Always a fun and provocative journey.

Getting ready for the atmospheric river approaching LA makes me think of the last storm I experienced when we were in Joshua Tree. I love the rain, not going to lie.

Maybe I’ll have time to take some rainy day photos in LA in the coming days.

Stay safe out there neighbors 👌
