yeah for me for whatever reason, the playing with the content very much lives in my head and maybe in explaining the content to others, and trying to write it out actually almost makes me become less interested in it? this is why we need a specific word because the experience is so different!

i guess, but i think that’s very much up to personal preference. for me, annotating books has never done anything for me when i’ve tried, ultimately feeling like i wasted a bunch of ink and a book just to get too distracted analyzing to really immerse myself in the story.

i think the whole “it’s not reading” thing though is unfortunately the difference between people like m speaking specifically about engaging in critical and creative thinking via narratives vs the physical act of eyes on words (or fingers on texture for those who read braille). it’s its own thing.

ugh. okay, yes, but reading a book is not just “reading” in the same way that you’re reading this post. maybe we can come up with another word that encapsulates the feeling that both reading and listening to a narrative brings, because to me they are one in the same.
