“Justice through retribution” is a better last line — and why we put people in prison fundamentally.
“Justice and retribution” makes it sound like these concepts are separate.
Amazing article!

Any non paywalled link? Y’know for those of us who don’t support the NYT’s long history of normalizing: anti trans rhetoric, reactionary centrism and laundering corporate propaganda as liberalism.

What’s truly brilliant is the one of the hosts goes on the explain how the agency should undergo dramatic reform and a name change.
…Which is just “abolish ICE” with more words.
Does anyone think anyone in charge deserves to keep their job after this?

You have a spinning hard drive in 2026? For SSD, it’s not really necessary.

Nabokov’s “Lolita” was a fictional work about a pedophile but harmed zero children. Creating AI fiction that harms zero children also isn’t harmful to children.
Release the Epstein files and focus on the harm of actual children.

You’ve got communities. Burners must qualify as communist in some sense for rejecting commercialism. I’ve seen you direct a play — surely the people who acted weren’t doing it primarily for money. If you’d like to join another community, be at Cecil’s between 7 and 7:30 on Monday. Come hungry.

During the 2016 primary, there was a brief period where the NYT wrote editorials about how a Bernie win wouldn’t be a disaster. After Biden won, they felt some egg on their face: reactionary centrism won.
So let’s talk about how trans folx are a problem.

The Democratic Party the past four years has been too busy playing T-ball where the batter unexpectedly leaves without taking a swing. You could hit a fly ball so it’s better not to swing.

She’s made a ton of breakup songs…but no divorce songs. Once she’s married and finds out he’s an empty headed jock, imagine the new possibilities!
Her lyrics are a reflection of his believing they’re brilliant.

I remember during the GOP primary for the 2016 election, NPR only Ira Flatow predicted Trump would win. He still hosts “Science Friday”. There’s no incentive to be correct in your predictions only for engagement.

Move it to The Hague. That way, if any war criminals attempt to attend, we can arrest them for their crimes via the ICC

The Democratic Party lacks leadership. Polls are a snapshot in time and a lagging indicator. When asked what made him a great hockey player, Wayne Gretzky responded that he skates to where the puck will be rather than to where the puck is.
Poll driven dems are always behind for this reason.

Peanut butter on sour dough toast is both tasty, filling, natural (especially if you get two ingredient peanut butter: peanuts+salt), easy and cheap. Wash it down with some milk so it doesn’t coat your mouth.

If this is true, why hasn’t anyone tried to win a 5K or marathon with it? It’s not like swimming where you can be disqualified for doing the wrong stroke.

In his youth, he founded a media company which he’s since quit. Even though he’s part of establishment media, he keeps thinking he hasn’t “sold out”.
Taylor Swift is currently more punk than he is.

I can’t believe how much Democrats are afraid of democracy. From cloistered rooms strategizing about defeatIng Bernie to the insular circle of Biden pretending we couldn’t see his decline and nominating Harris without a vote.
Democrats love to lament the decline of democracy without using it.

I have Donkey Kong Bananza (2025) on a physical cartridge that I can play without internet access. Some versions of the XBox and PS don’t even have an option to get games without internet. Nintendo does what other consoles don’t.
