🌱 #Agroforestry is all about farming with trees – creating healthier soils, higher yields, + helping wildlife to thrive. These systems build resilience for your farm business + nature.

Agroforestry explained: Check out the different ways that trees can benefit your farming system... Silvoarable: Integrating rows of trees with arable crops creates a 3D farming system that boosts productivity and resilience. Trees reduce soil erosion by up to 65% draw nutrients from deeper soils, and support carbon sequestration. Farmers can benefit from extra income from fruits, nuts, or timber, while crops continue to thrive between rows. Yields can even increase by up to 40%! Silvopasture: Combining trees with grazing livestock improves animal welfare and productivity while enriching soils. Shade and shelter reduce stress, improve survival rates, and extend grazing seasons by up to 17 weeks. Trees provide fodder and habitats for wildlife, while animals fertilise the land, creating a resilient system that benefits both farmers and livestock. Hedges, shelter belts and tree buffers are a vital part of the UK’s farming landscape, offering protection from weather extremes, reducing flood risk, and improving soil, water and carbon resources. They act as natural biosecurity barriers while boosting biodiversity - more than doubling species richness on farms and creating habitat corridors for wildlife.
