And Jesus will say, “When I was hungry, you did not feed me.”

Today is the 11th day of the 11th month. We remember the horror and foolishness of war. As we remember the 1914-18 “war to end all wars” pray for those suffering in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and elsewhere.

“In Flanders’s fields the poppies blow, between the crosses, row by row…”.

The opposite of addiction is connection and community! An old message now but one we still need to act on.

The Trump administration has made me feel powerless and overwhelmed. What if small neighborly love is the beginning of moving out of despair and toward justice?

Today we remember is Christian educationalist George Muller, born 27th September 1805. He opened >100 schools and cared for >10,000 orphans in my adopted city, Bristol. He was criticised for “raising the poor above their natural station in life”. Is this still our attitude?

When Jesus is asked how to achieve “eternal life” he doesn’t reply “be religious”, Instead, he tells us that we will be judged by our compassion to the poor, widows, the hungry and those who have been attacked and beaten. Jesus preaches tolerance, community and love. Christians must remember this!

Before we speak, we should let our words pass through three gates:

* Is it true?
* Is it kind?
* Is it necessary?

Our judgement of ‘is it necessary’ is especially important. It may override the other two. But the other two can override it. And that choice comes down to wisdom. 🙏
