I'm really excited to announce that I have had my first article published in the @jinfolit.bsky.social! I hope this article sparks conversations about how workplace information literacy is experienced by autistic librarians.📑📑

And that sums up the first NLISN AGM! I may be biased, but @jofitz.bsky.social and @playbrarian.uk are brilliant humans. Thank you to all the members of the committee, and the network, who are helping us neurodivergent folks know we're not alone in this big old library world! @nlisn.bsky.social

I had a *big* organisation refuse to give me them a couple of times... It was a shock! I didn't want to self-disclose so we compromised with giving "themes" of the interview. They tried, I guess?

I love how compassionate and empathetic @christinemmoe.bsky.social is as they present: reminders to take a breath, check if you're physically and emotionally comfortable before moving forward are such brilliant tools. ##NLISNTakeCareOfYourself

I’ve been on a streak of brilliant reads lately (Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, Butter, and Yellowface). Just finished Chris Whitaker’s All the Colours of the Dark and I’m obsessed. As in, I read it in 5 hours and nearly cried, obsessed. Anyone else? #Allthecoloursofthedark

Lovely @playbrarian.uk is running a brilliant webinar on the 8th of Sep! Would definitely recommend going. To quote myself: "Find out more of what it's like to be in my brain! (Phantom of the Opera/Stormzy constant backing track not included)"

Nothing more humbling than being asked if you’re “really” over 18 by charity people and then the Face Verification not working for BlueSky. (I also get ID’d for Red bull a lot). I JUST HAVE A BABY FACE OK (I’m 26).

This is one of my key indicators if I'm getting close to burnout/NEED a low sensory day- books and reading are my special interest, so if I can't read, then:

Betty and I had a lot of fun.. Sigh. It looks like my animal companions in London will be the Flying Ant swarm everyone is worrying about.

There are many, many things I miss about living in York. The people, the city, Explore Libraries, my little cottage... And Betty the library cat. #LibraryCat #ExploreYork #PublicLibraries

Because real inclusion means acknowledging the full experience, not just the parts that fit neatly into workplace expectations. Let’s keep building spaces where people feel like they truly belong. (5/5)

It’s something I’ve spoken about in my recent talks; how celebrating neurodiversity isn’t just recognising strengths, but also openly addressing the challenges that come with being neurodivergent. (4/5)

but now I see that openly embracing my neurodiversity is part of creating that sense of belonging. Talking about it, celebrating it, normalising it, it’s all part of making workplaces better for everyone. (3/5)
ahaire.bsky.social
For most of my life, I kept my neurodiversity quiet, especially when it came to interviews. Not because I was ashamed, but because it seemed easier not having to explain and not having to worry about how people might react. (2/5)

"Can you provide an example of action you have taken in the workplace to support a sense of belonging for all?"

This was a recent interview Q I had. I’ve spent years hiding my neurodiversity. But celebrating it fosters belonging. (1/5)
