Kernighan and Plauger's Elements of Programming Style, published in 1974 and 1978, is still remarkably applicable to today's programming once account is made for its examples in Fortran 66 and PL/I. 'Localize input and output in subroutines.' Don't put SQL in your business methods.

chenup is a new persistence architecture based on our 30 years of experience with full OO and ORM approaches. The most important (but not the only) feature is the elevation of associations to 1st-class status, as shown in the JPA vs chenup diagrams below (based on the Spring pet shop example).

My third computer – the university's IBM 370. I am not sure of the exact spec, the photo shows a 370-145. Wrote (on punched cards) my first Fortran IV program on this in the summer of 1976. This time-sharing machine served the entire university. Carried me through undergraduate and graduate years.

My second computer (if you discount my Sterling slide rule) was the electronic analog computer from the American Basic Science Club, which I got probably c. 1970.

This diagram from Bate, Mueller, White's astrodynamics (and taken from 1965 Space Planner's Guide) shows why Earth-orbital altitudes are confined to a very narrow range. Going above around 560 km is human experimentation on radiation effects. #Astrodynamics

Unfortunately it appears to be out of print, but used copies are easily available from the usual sources.

In perhaps the final minute, the one book he recommends for new architects is Mary Shaw's Software Architecture. Totally concur. Unfortunately it looks like this book may have gone out of print, but used copies are available.
